  A staircase carved into the cliff gace access to the lower batteries carved in the rock. The batteries were built in 1888.

   

  One could also access these batteries from the forts’ underground staircases, but this still existing passage is now hidden by the overgrowth.

  The Germans reinforced some areas of the fort to install pieces of ordnance.
